You're hosed. There is no way in the world, including Microsoft
compatible software like Lotus, etc., to be certain of converting a
Word 97 document into any other format. Simply put, they have crowded
so many "features" into it that it is not portable, nor is it
intelligible or supportable.
Print your documents as Postscript on your word box and send
that. HylaFAX can only handle raw text, Postscript, or TIFF files.

When Micro$oft stops deliberately altering their proprietary standards
to prevent anyone else being able to read them, this may be possible.
Until then, "Office ain't done 'til Lotus don't run" is their
standard, as shown both by examining their software and
by the numerous successful lawsuits...
