Hylafax FDIS error with 33k6 fax machines ?

Hello,

I use Hylafax 4.0 pl 2 on SunOS 4.1.3U1
with 30 rack mounted MultiTech MT1432BR modems
sending some 6000 pages in some 4000 faxes a day.
On a few of those (some 12) receivers appear not to send the
required FDIS answer, stating their capabilities.
This aborts the transmission.
I get this log file :

The message I see in all failed logs is the same :

Jul 14 16:10:04.89: [23103]: --> [6:+FDIS:]
Jul 14 16:10:04.89: [23103]: MODEM protocol botch, can not parse ""

This happens with a number of different receiving fax machines,
all of whom appear to support 33k6 reception (aka. SuperG3).

I have communicated with Minolta who tried disabling ECM on their
receiving machine, still no joy.
Then we tried again after disabling high speed reception (i.e.. 33k6 /
28k8)
and that fixed / circumvented the problem.

This same 'fix' worked on a Canon L900.

With a tech person at OKI we tried their 5500, 5700 and 4500 with the
following result :
5500 with ECM failed
5500 no ECM success
5700 with ECM failed
5700 no ECM success
4500 with ECM success

So it seems disabling 33k6 reception of faxes on the receiving end
avoids the problem.
And disabling ECM on 33k6 OKI machines avoids it too.

My question : what can I change in the HylaFax setup to never see this
problem,
even with 33k6 fax machines ?

Thanks for your time,

Joost
