I cannot offer a solution but I share the frustration with others since I can reproduce this exact problem with my setup: Hylafax 4.0pl2 binary distribution included in SuSE Linux 6.0 (Kernel 2.0.36) 3Com US Robotics 56K Voice Faxmodem f.gassauer
