didn´t catch the original question, sorry.

If your script for printing faxes runs from the prompt in the faxdir, does it run as root or as uucp/fax? Sounds like odd user rights. Is the Ghostscript config file readable by uucp/fax?

And beside all this, is the printer configured correctly? Can you use it for usual printouts like "lpr -Pprinter1 filename.ps"? If so, try an entry in /etc/aliases
faxprint1: "|/usr/bin/lpr -Pprinter1"
then do newaliases and deliver the received fax to user faxprint1 via email.
