flexfax: USR Sportster

Hi again,
i obtain the following error, maybe anyone can help me to resolve it,
i have Hylafax 4.0pl2 / BSDI 2.1

When i run faxaddmodem:

Probing for  best speed to talk to modem: 38400 OK.
cat: /dev/ttyA12:Resource temporaly unavailable
kill: (PID) - No such pid

It seems me that the modem isn't responding, but, i observe their 
connections and all is ok.

Anyone can help me to know what's happening exactly?
