We've seen a lot of reports on this group os people using modems that *claimed* to be 2.0, especially on the box, but when run only worked in Class 1 mode. This seems especially true of the 33.6 modems, which I tried with a USR Sportster 33.6 and a PPI 33.6 (I never did get the PPI straightened out and had to give it back to its owner). It may also be true of the 56k modems. > I got the modem as an inexpensive add on for UUCP, started using it > for diald and pppd, and the firmware seemed robust. There are a *lot* of patches, drivers, and security fixes in the more recent kernels that aren't available in the older ones. Nico Garcia Engineer, CIRL Mass.
