flexfax: Wrong destination

Have you ever seen this? My modem sends faxes to the wrong recipients and 
pretends to work correctly.

Short summary: I try to fax a document from Germany to the US. HylaFAX 
sends the correct number to the modem. First, the line is busy a few times 
but then a machine answers the call which is not located in the States but 
in our own company (reachable by a 3-digit number from the HylaFAX server). 
HylaFAX tells me everything is OK, but a few minutes later a secretary 
calls me saying that she got a fax from me which should go abroad.
The same thing happened with 2 faxes to different numbers in the US.

What might be the cause for this behavior?

My configuration is:
HylaFAX v4.0pl1 on SCO OpenServer 5.0.2
Modem: ZyXEL 1496E.
