No trace logging under Dell SVR4?

I installed 2.2beta019 out of the box; no problems. However, it's not working. Even more important, I get no log information, even if I (presumably) turn on all the logging bits by setting the tracing parameters to 2047.

If I start faxd on an unconfigured device, I do get messages from syslog.

I wasn't getting any syslog information under Dell SysVr4 until I made /dev/log writable by ordinary users.
