I just returned from my summer vacation, and saw many querries around
Solaris 2.x shered library.

Please loook at the permission of hfaxd file, it has suid bit set to root.
In this case, Solaris 2.x does look only at default library path,
that is /usr/lib.  Therefore, you should make symbolic link from 
/usr/local/lib/libtiff.so to /usr/lib/libtiff.so.
