You will not get USB modems to be supported under ESX or ESXi as USB 
pass-through is not available in either.  You will be stuck running 
Vmware server 2 if you want USB redirection.

One more question: how do USB modems work? Do they work the same, like 
real
com modem do or they have problems, as it happens with winmodems?
