[hylafax-users] Mainpine Q-Express - Waiting for modem to come ready

Hi,
I try to get the " Mainpine CFAX34 7.0.0.4 (Jun 19 2007) Polaris DP3SH" 
modem card up and running. The following information might help:

0c:00.0 Communication controller: MainPine Ltd PCI <-> IOBus Bridge (rev 81)
       Subsystem: MainPine Ltd IQ Express F4 - 4 Port V.34 Super-G3 Fax 
Modem
       Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 16
       I/O ports at 5000 [size=128]
       Memory at fde00000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M]
       Kernel driver in use: serial


uname -a
Linux ops-efg 2.6.24.7-92.fc8 #1 SMP Wed May 7 16:50:09 EDT 2008 i686 
i686 i386 GNU/Linux

Log files tell me:
Oct 13 12:08:56 efg FaxGetty[8493]: Unable to setup modem on /dev/ttyS4; 
giving up after 2 attempts
Oct 13 12:08:56 efg FaxGetty[8493]: CLOSE /dev/ttyS4
Oct 13 12:08:56 efg FaxQueuer[5170]: MODEM /dev/ttyS4 appears to be wedged

# faxstat
HylaFAX scheduler on ops-efg.ops.skyguide: Running
Modem ttyS4 (+1.999.555.1212): Waiting for modem to come ready
Modem ttyS5 (5): Waiting for modem to come ready

I already tried to decrease the amount of cpus to 1, by adding maxcpus=1 
to /etc/grub.conf, because of this post:

I have no glue what else to try. I also searched the web and looked up 
the mailing list archives, whithout any success.
