[hylafax-users] MODEM TIMEOUT: waiting for v.21 carrier

Hi List,

I recently installed HylaFAX on Ubuntu 7.04 and can successfully 
receive most faxes; however there is one number
that always fails to connect.  I am using a Conexant HSF modem (Class 
1.0) with a paid Linuxant driver on a vonage voip line.
The session log is listed below.  Note that it terminates early.  The 
other modem hung up but my modem continued to think that it
was still receiving data (according to faxstat) even though a dial 
tone was present when I lifted an extension handset to check.
I tried restarting the HylaFAX server but the modem wouldn't properly 
reinitialize.  Ultimately I had to reboot the machine, so clearly
the modem was confused!

I often get the Modem Command error and FCS errors when plugged into 
a vonage voip line.  I do not usually get
these errors when plugged into a PSTN line.  For most received faxes, 
the modem returns CONNECT in response to the
AT+FRH=3 which follows CRP and I see a TSI followed by protocol negotiation.

Thoughts on the "waiting for v.21 carrier" stuff?  Is this where the 
sending modem hangs up?  If yes, thoughts on why
it hangs up?

Any help you can provide is greatly welcomed.  I'm a newbie at fax 
protocols so verbose explanations are also
greatly welcomed -- thx!  :-)
