The 'U' does not mean 64bit but rather it refers to the 'universal' version of PCI - this is one that supports both 3.3 Volt and 5 Volt 'signalling'. You really should only consider buying a universal board these days and they are readily availible in 32bit versions.


Any comments on which bus is best to use and whether Moxa boards make the grade for a Linux Hylafax environment.

The primary issue with this type of architecture is the make/model of external modems that you use. However, that said, multiport serial boards do bring interrupt and reliability issues that may be important to you.
