AJS, My argument is not that IAXmodem/SIP/VoIP/IP and HylaFAX can never work, but rather that it's an order of magnitude more complex than a good fax board when connected to POTS. I believe that Michael was saying the same thing. While any number of 'bodge' solutions can be constructed, my real issue with this is how we measure that it 'works'.... I have a genuine interest in this area because we actually compare fax hardware/software solutions in our lab and strive to create meaningful comparative test scenarios. Maybe the simplest answer to this question is that we let the customer decide whether a solution is 'good enough'. In my opinion the vast majority of fax server users simply require a robust and reliable solution.... the analog fax machine is a great example of what we should be striving to achieve... one button transmission and reception of documents.
