I am building my new system based upon Fedora 7 and I thought adding HylaFAX to it would be piece of cake. Sigh, it aint :-(
I have had HylaFAX running on Fedora Core 5 for a year and a half without any problems. On Fedora 7 the HylaFAX daemon starts fine but the modem isn't initialised. In dmesg I see:
Xen virtual console successfully installed as ttyS0
and messages:
FaxGetty[3393]: /dev/ttyS0: Can not initialize modem.
FaxGetty[3393]: Unable to setup modem on /dev/ttyS0; giving up after 2 attempts
FaxGetty[3393]: CLOSE /dev/ttyS0
FaxQueuer[2638]: MODEM /dev/ttyS0 appears to be wedged
FaxQueuer[2638]: MODEM WEDGED: bin/wedged "ttyS0" "/dev/ttyS0"
I assume this Xen is stealing the modem before HylaFAX can get to it. What is this Xen doing and how can I get rid of it? I did yum remove xen* but it still snatches the modem. Has anybody seen this and have a cure for it. I would be greatfull to hear about it.
You're probably booting with kernel-xen. See:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Docs/Fedora7VirtQuickStart
You probably just need to edit /etc/grub.conf and set the default to the non-xen kernel.
