The fundamental problem is that you won't know if the call is fax or voice until you have answered it. By which time it's too late anyway ..... Some modems can be configured to respond to "distinctive ringing" signals -- that is where you have one incoming line with two numbers, and dialling one gives you a double "ring ring" sound but dialling the other gives you a single long "ring". However, setting up distinctive ringing is usually not much cheaper than installing a second line. If you are going to be sending and receiving a lot of faxes, which will tie up your telephone, it may well be worth the extra line. If you go the distinctive ringing route, your telco should be able to reassign the alternative number to a separate line in future if you require this. -- AJS ____________________ HylaFAX(tm) Users Mailing List _______________________ To subscribe/unsubscribe, click http://lists.hylafax.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi On UNIX: mail -s unsubscribe hylafax-users-request@xxxxxxxxxxx < /dev/null *To learn about commercial HylaFAX(tm) support, mail sales@xxxxxxxxx*
