Re: [hylafax-users] can't detect modem

Hi Maya,

The only people that can help you to get your modem installed and working are the user groups at linmodems.org - this mail list (hylafax-users@xxxxxxxxxxx) is for HylaFAX related issues.

Please be aware however, that even if you get your modem installed and working it will be of little use with HylaFAX... software modems like the one in your laptop offer very poor support for fax.

Subject: [hylafax-users] can't detect modem

Haii Alll..
i tried to configure hylafax in laptop.. but modem can't detect.. i go thru the site linmodems.org and https://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/index.php..

.... /proc/pci shows....
modem: PCI Device 8086:266d(Intel Corp.)

i also go thru http://www.conexant.com/
in https://www.linuxant.com this site they provide drivers.. i download and install hcfpcimodem_1.10full_i386.deb this debian package.. afterthat using 'hcfpciconfig' command, then it shows an error like.........

.........No pre-built  modules for :Debian-3.1 linux-2.4.27-2-386 i686
trying to automatically build the driver modules..
(this requires a C compiler and proper kernel sources to be installed)
where is the linux source build directory that matches your running kernel?[/lib/modules/2,4,27-2-386/build]

then i just press enter then it shows some errors...
and last
......however, proper /boot/confi-2.4.27-2-386 was found.
would you like to try using it(in a temprary kernel tree)? [yes]
i just press enter.. then it shows
.. unable to prepare temporary kernel tree..
the linux kernel can be reconfigured by running "make menuconfig" under the kernel source directory(/usr/src/linux)..
then compile and install your new kernel ..then reboot the system and ewrun the "hcfpciconfig"

i checked the /usr/src.. but the linux dir was not found..

i installed the kernel-2.4.27-2-386 by using apt..
how i can recompile this?..
pls help..

thanks in advance
maya
