If the variable WEDGED_DISABLE_FAXGETTY is set in *etc/FaxDispatch* then 
the script will attempt to disable any faxgetty processes spawned by the 
/init <http://hylafax.sourceforge.net/man/init.php>/(8C) process for the 
problematic modem.


So that's /var/spool/hylafax/etc/FaxDispatch (most likely) and you just 
set it to some non-null value:

 WEDGED_DISABLE_FAXGETTY=yes
