Re: [hylafax-users] wedged and reset scripts

Joe,

You may not get wedged modems but if you look carefully you will find that
the Brooktrout card is transparently resending failed fax's, and Net
SatisFAXtion is resetting failed ports. These are great techniques for
overcoming hardware/firmware/software problems but also make it extremely
difficult to compare products because you don't always know when a port has
'wedged' (or the Brooktrout equivalent).

Net SatisFAXtion fully supports the Mainpine SideBand technology which
includes mechanisms for resetting individual ports. This is one of the
reasons why we always outperform Brooktrout hardware in comparison tests,
and why many Net SatisFAXtion customers prefer our hardware
(http://www.mainpine.com/downloads/WP-Lobar.pdf).

The open source versions of HylaFAX do not currently support our SideBand
technology..... this is however about to change and will result in a
significant improvement in reliability (far beyond what you see with your
Brooktrout dinosaur).

Net SatisFAXtion and HylaFAX are comparable in terms of fax performance and
reliability. This is one of the reasons why we use both in our test lab
(http://www.mainpine.com/corporate/press/2006/isvlab.php).

I must agree that NT is a very stable platform... We have one customer who's
been running several fax broadcast systems since 1997.

I'd write a script that goes out to the internet and buys a brooktrout
board. I've been running a Brooktrout board for probably 4-5 years on
WinNT/Netsatisfaxtion/Winfax without a wedge or reboot. Our purchasing
department won't switch away from it. My Multitechs wedge maybe once every
two months.
