Apologies for the delayed response Mark.... please keep this topic 'in list' so that everyone can benefit/comment. I would suggest that you begin by changing the baudrate and any other serial parameters that are different. If this makes no difference then swap modems, serial cables, and telco lines until you are absolutely sure that the problem is with one particular port. Once you 'know' the problems is with one particular port then look to see if the serial interrupt is being shared with anything else that might give a problem (by design the SIIG card will share interrupts on the card). You are looking for some tangible difference between the ports. You might want to ask support whether the SIIG card is using the 'standard' serial driver and in what mode (16550 or some other enhanced mode). Is this the same as the motherboard ? You might want to try the latest HylaFAX version because changes in the Class 1 driver will have modified the port timings. Please tell me which is the most important to check next. I give you what I've tested so far and the settings. The modems were purchased at the same time and their firmware has never been updated. I've used them interchangeably in the past. Still, I'll check the documentation to find out how to make sure they are the same. The serial cables are not the same. The two on the PCI card are DB-9 and the one on the motherboard is a DB-15 with unknown origin. As far as I know, all serial ports are using standard Debian drivers. I've not installed anything extra for the SIIG. The PCI SIIG parameters have different baud parameters (slower) than the onboard serial. I'll check the specifics later for my on edification. The PCI SIIG card shared an IRQ. I've not swapped telco lines. >>> "andrew rinaldi" <andrew.rinaldi@xxxxxxxxxxxx> 1/3/2006 5:42 PM >>> Hi Mark. If you can answer the following questions it may help explain what's happening; Are all the modems truly identical (same firmware, chipset version, build version, etc.) ? Are all the modems using identical serial cables ? Are all the serial ports set to the same comm parameters (baud rate, handshake type, etc.) ? Does the SIIG card use the same serial driver as the motherboard or a custom driver ? Are any of the serial interrupts shared ? Have you swapped the telco lines between ttyS1 and ttyS2 ? We have been using just one of them for reception for 2 years with little problem. This one is on ttyS1, a motherboard serial port. Recently, we needed to add a second reception line (and we've reduced sending) so I configured an identical modem with the same configuration as ttyS1, but this modem is on a PCI serial card (by SIIG), which we've used successfully for sending. Now the setup is like this: ttyS1 <- receive-motherboard ttyS2 <- receive-PCI ttyS3 -> send-PCI When testing ttyS2 by using the sending modem on ttyS3, I get good reception results. Most other receptions fail in various ways (I've swapped the modems on ttyS2 and ttyS3). I've kept a list. It dawned on me that the main difference between ttyS1 and ttyS2 is the serial port. It may be that sending from ttyS3 to ttyS2 works because it is from-to the same PCI serial card. If that is the case, I need to do some testing, but I don't know where to begin. Can I test with Hylafax tools? Am I way off base?
