[hylafax-users] Us Robotics madness

Hello ;)

My boss still wants a fax server.

I tried many fax/modem but none of those I tried ever worked.

Today a friend gave me a US Robotics - Sportster flash UBH231C86KF6
Picture here:
http://img279.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sportsterflash6sd.jpg

I connected it to my box with the serial, but impossible to make it
working ...

probemodem found no modem but when I run probemodem you can see the RD
and SD led blinking sometimes.

fujitsu1 ~ # probemodem
Serial port that modem is connected to []? ttyS0

Now we are going to probe the tty port. This takes a few seconds,
so be patient. Note that if you do not have the modem cabled to
the port, or the modem is turned off, this may hang (just go and
cable up the modem or turn it on, or whatever).

Probing for best speed to talk to modem: 38400 19200 9600 4800 2400 1200
Unable to deduce DTE-DCE speed; check that you are using the
correct device and/or that your modem is setup properly. If
all else fails, try the -s option to lock the speed.

I also tried with wvdialconf:

fujitsu1 ~ # dmesg | grep -i "tty"
ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
fujitsu1 ~ # setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart 16550 port 0x3f8 irq 4
fujitsu1 ~ # wvdialconf create
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1
ttyS0<*1>: failed with 2400 baud, next try: 9600 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1
ttyS0<*1>: failed with 9600 baud, next try: 115200 baud
ttyS0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- ATQ0 V1 E1
ttyS0<*1>: and failed too at 115200, giving up.
Port Scan<*1>: S1 S2 S3

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wvdial/

If you still have problems, send mail to wvdial-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now with kermit:

fujitsu1 ~ # kermit
C-Kermit 8.0.209, 17 Mar 2003, for Linux
 Copyright (C) 1985, 2003,
Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York.
Type ? or HELP for help.
(/root/) C-Kermit>set line /dev/ttyS0
(/root/) C-Kermit>set speed 38400
/dev/ttyS0, 38400 bps
(/root/) C-Kermit>set carrier-watch off
(/root/) C-Kermit>c
Connecting to /dev/ttyS0, speed 38400
Escape character: Ctrl-\ (ASCII 28, FS): enabled
Type the escape character followed by C to get back,
or followed by ? to see other options.
----------------------------------------------------
ATI3

And I get no reply...

When my boss plug the modem on it's macintosh classic, it works
directly ... and the linux is blamed...
Tell me if it is possible to make them working with linux ?

Thanks to all ;)
