Many thanks for your prompt response and we'll try your suggested config   
change. However it does seem that we should look for a better modem. Can   
anyone on the list suggest, or recommend, a model which will pass UK   
(British Telecom) caller-id? (For info I am familiar with the resource   
http://www.ainslie.org.uk/callerid/cli_faq.htm)
