This means that the sender was trying to send a (V.21) signal that we were not expecting (because we were expecting V.17 data). Current HylaFAX CVS HEAD (on its way to become 4.2.2) handles this situation very gracefully and would likely (unless the sender is transmitting DCN to disconnect) be able to keep the session going.
