The error logs that showed protocol failure (not the dialing command 
error) are quite possibly (and perhaps likely, given that the 5634's 
Class 2.0 is rather good) unavoidable instances of error.  However, you 
may want to try switching to Class 1 (re-run faxaddmodem and choose 1.0; 
1 is to 2.0 as 1.0 is to 2.1) and seeing how you fare in comparison.

As for the invalid dialing command error, I can't make sense of it.  If 
it happens frequently you should probably ask that to MultiTech.
