They are not symbolic links but contain the same files.

Hello Paul,

Debian's policy requires configuration files to reside in /etc. It's common to have a directory /etc/<packagename> which contains all configuration files for a specific package.

Hylafax requires the files to be in /var/spool/hylafax/etc.

I think /var/spool/hylafax/etc cannot be a symbolic link to /etc/hylafax because hylafax runs or may run in a chroot environment.
Making /etc/hylafax a symbolic link to /var/spool/hylafax/etc does not comply with Debian's policy.
(Guiseppe as the maintainer may correct me if I'm wrong or if I forgot something.)

You are expected to do all modifications in /etc/hylafax and the startup script will copy all modified files to /var/spool/hylafax/etc.

Bodo
