I have just now tested the modem by connecting it to a Windows machine and its working perfectly. The "CD" LED lights up only after the connection to the remote fax machine is made. So, I have confirmed that the telephone line is good and the fax modem is good. Which implies there is something wrong with the Linux machine.Probably just something wrong with how it's set up on the Linux machine.
Do you see the serial devices in /var/log/dmesg (or 'dmesg' output)?
If you don't know what that means, then send the output of dmesg.
Lee.
