Hello Lee! thanks for your time in advance!

I've added the requested server tracing, kill -9 <pid> for faxgetty and I got this:

Mar 1 19:40:41 fax FaxGetty[3415]: OPEN /dev/ttyS3 HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.2.1
Mar 1 19:40:42 fax FaxGetty[3415]: MODEM set DTR OFF
Mar 1 19:40:42 fax FaxGetty[3415]: DELAY 75 ms
Mar 1 19:40:42 fax FaxGetty[3415]: MODEM set DTR ON
Mar 1 19:40:42 fax FaxGetty[3415]: DELAY 2600 ms
Mar 1 19:40:46 fax FaxGetty[3415]: MODEM set baud rate: 19200 baud, input flow XON/XOFF, output flow XON/XOFF
Mar 1 19:40:46 fax FaxGetty[3415]: DELAY 10 ms
Mar 1 19:40:46 fax FaxGetty[3415]: MODEM flush i/o
Mar 1 19:40:46 fax FaxGetty[3415]: <-- [4:ATZ\r]
Mar 1 19:41:16 fax FaxGetty[3415]: MODEM TIMEOUT: reading line from modem

The problem looks like your modem is not responding on /dev/ttyS3.

Can you use minicom with it?

Lee.
