Re: [hylafax-users] Send the users a confirmation or error report

I just realized that what I described below applied to the <username>@<fax-no>.fax address format, not to yours - but you should still be able to use the basic idea - write a short script to be called from master.cf instead of faxmail, and the script redirects the faxmail output to an invocation of sendfax with the options you need.

I don't know how it works with postfix, but I did this once with sendmail. I had to change the fax.m4 file to call a shell script I wrote instead of faxmail - the script, /usr/local/bin/mailfax was like this -

#!/bin/sh
/usr/local/bin/faxmail -n -p 12|sendfax -n -m -R -f "$2" -d "$1"

and I had changed the fax.m4 file like this (output from diff fax.m4.original fax.m4)-
20c20
< `define(`FAX_MAILER_ARGS', faxmail -d $u@$h $f)')
---

22c22
< `define(`FAX_MAILER_PATH', /usr/local/bin/faxmail)')
---
> `define(`FAX_MAILER_PATH', /usr/local/bin/mailfax)')

so that faxmail did its thing with the email but then sendfax got the output and sent it on with the correct options -

it worked, but we ended up not using it because there was no user demand for a mail to fax gateway at our office.

Thanks David for your message. However, I notice I forgot to mention some of
the details of my installation.

We are using hylafax as a mail-to-fax gateway, powered by Postfix. E-Mail
Addresses being in the format <fax-number>@fax.servername. Postfix is not
calling sendfax but
/usr/local/bin/faxmail -d -n ${user}
That's why I'm unsure about your solution. Of course, I've already tried
with the -R parameter (either on command-line or as an option in
sendfax.cfg) but to no awail.

Ah, and by the way, this is self-compiled Hylafax 4.2.0 on RedHat
Enterprise.

The -f option to sendfax gives you total control over who receives notification messages. -R option will notify on both successful and unsuccessful fax transmission and requeues. For getting a copy of the sent fax as a PDF attachment, I believe that if you change RETURNDONEFAXAS= to RETURNDONEFAXAS=pdf in notify, that will do it for you.

Hello all,

I've been googling around a lot but didn't find an answer to this:

How would I tell Hylafax to send an e-mail to the _sender_ (not FaxMaster)
when there is an error, and even better, when the fax is being requeued or
sent successfully? I'd also like to attach the file as a PDF, but that's

not

a priority.

Is there a way to tweak bin/notify? Or can I do that by customizing
etc/FaxNotify?

Any hints welcome.

Mit freundlichen Grüssen - kind regards - Meilleures salutations -
Vriendelijke groeten

Erich Iseli
