I assume you mean that you invoke 'sendfax' from the shell script.
Although you could invoke 'faxsend' directly, if you prepared the fax
and queue file properly, HylaFAX works best with a client-server
arrangement ('sendfax').
So you can monitor 'faxstat' output until the fax is complete, or you
can tweak FaxNotify (see 'man notify') in order to get you a signal
indicating the job status.
