Hello! A noexec mount option added recently to the /var partition on our server had the unintended consequence of disabling the HylaFax' scripts (like ps2fax). Attempts to call such script now result in "permission denied errors". Unfortunately, instead of logging such errors properly and emailing the failure messages back to the senders, HylaFax showed no indication of error whatsoever, other than logging the message quoted in subject into the system log. Although the jobs never got sent, their q-files are (bogusly) moved into the doneq. To reproduce, simply `chmod -x /var/spool/hylafax/bin/ps2fax' and try faxing a text file. To keep the /var mounted noexec, I moved the whole hylafax/bin subdirectory to the more apropriate /usr/local/libexec/hylafax and put a symbolic link in place. /usr/local is usually mounted readonly here (unlike /var and /tmp, which are not expected to have executables).
