Personally I'm currently looking at a way of passing a word/excel etc 
document to a windows machine for rendering to a ps file and then having 
it passed back achieved using something like SOAP/XMLRPC.

If anyone knows a OSS server that can do this please let the list know. 
I have seen commercial servers but I am guessing big $$$.

You could try the Open Office command line interface to convert the word 
docs into ps files but you need to understand that it's not going to 
make an exact facsimile of the original doc.
