I just fixed the problem in debian version 4.2.0-7. I think this is related to a bash behaviour that was/is wrong in hylafax. I also opened a bug in hylafax bugzilla and supplied the very simple patch: http://bugs.hylafax.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=577
