I am running Hylafax 4.1.8-1 on Redhat 8, and using an external Courier V.Everything serial modem. This server can receive over a hundred faxes without incident, however the problem is the modem will hang for no apparent reason while answering a call, all that shows up in the logs is continuous RING, RING, RING.... nonstop until the server is restarted. from years ago seems to be the same exact problem but was never answered. Here is a snippet from my logs:

Any ideas would be appreciated

Try the attached patch. If you need an SRPM, let me know.

The patch should keep the faxgetty process from hanging indefinitely. However, the modem shouldn't respond with RING to ATA in the first place.
