Re: [hylafax-users] T.30 T2 timeout, expected page not received.. .update...

Title: RE: [hylafax-users] T.30 T2 timeout, expected page not received
I picked up two Multitech MT5634ZBA (usb) modems and have been using them for the last 10 days.  I haven't put together any statistics over the last 10 days, but I've seen noticably less occurences of the "T.30 T2 timeout" problem.  I'm very relieved that they are working much better than the USRs.

The surplus USR modem isn't much better than before, and I still haven't gotten the ZyXel modem working.  However the ZyXel is at firmware 4.13, which(based on earlier postings) might pose a problem even if I can get the modem to the point where it will answer the phone.

Change of plans...instead of an external ZyXel, I'm going to use an external USR Sportster 33.6 Faxmodem(model 0648).  I ran into trouble with the ZyXel when, upon receiving it's first test fax, it kept "listening to rings from modem".  I couldn't find any suggestions on the mailing-list about this "listening" problem and I didn't have time to try and figure it out, so I found in my company's surplus this external USR modem and hooked it up instead.

I'm running RedHat 9.0, with Hylafax 4.1.7, and three internal USR modems(older ones, not sure of the model at this moment) for incoming only.  On two of the modems, I get about 5% failure rate with the explanation "T.30 T2". On the other the rate is around %15.  So I'm going to switch that line to another RedHat9.0 box that will run Hylafax 4.1.8, and use an external ZyXel U-1496 modem.

I'll try and remember to send an update this list...

Thx,
Kevin.

This is probably a USR-specific shortcoming, but it could be due to
line problems or other issues, so switching modems to something non-USR
will probably help, but it may not.

There's really nothing HylaFAX can do here to improve the result.  The
modem reports (erroniously) the end-of-page signal (DLE+ETX, NO
CARRIER).

It is a good modem.
