Hello: That's a never mind on the password issue, browsing around among man pages and how-to documents, I found the faxadduser command, used it and got past the Login errors. I also, finally, got another successful test of faxing out a .pdf. That leaves the text files and the font metrics issue, still, though. Here is what happens when I try to fee the sendfax command an ascii text file instead of a .pdf. I haven't tried it yet, but I assume that the .ps files work fine. hesco@biko:~$ ./fax.sh Password: textfmt: No font metric information found for "Courier-Bold". Usage: textfmt [-1] [-2] [-B] [-c] [-D] [-f fontname] [-F fontdir(s)] [-m N] [-o #] [-p #] [-r] [-U] [-Ml=#,r=#,t=#,b=#] [-V #] files... >out.ps Default options: -f com -1 -p 11bp -o 0 Error converting data; command was "textfmt -B -f Courier-Bold -Ml=0.4in -p 11 -s default >/tmp//sndfaxi0MWGB <testfax.txt" hesco@biko:~$ I used the Debian Packages search engine to figure out what packages I needed to install to fill in the missing files that were identified in the faxsetup log, reprinted below. But my attempts to apt-get install gsfonts and gsfonts-other said those packages are already installed and up-to-date. I found a ghostscript/fonts directory in /usr/share and tried symlinking it from /usr/local/share, but that generated the same errors. I see that the sendfax command is attempting to create a temporary file at /tmp//sndfaxiOMWGB. It appears that a sub-directory name is missing in /tmp, which might be partially responsible. But that doesn't explain the "No font metric information found" error. Might it just be a matter of Courier-Bold being missing? Where is a configuration file where I might choose another default font? All clues are appreciated. -- Hugh Esco Date: Mon, 19 Apr 2004 01:16:54 -0400 From: Hugh Esco <hesco@xxxxxxxxxx> To: hylafax-users@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [hylafax-users] HylaFax Login failed: 530 Login incorrect, font metric errors. Hey folks: I'm trying this again in hopes of getting a response this time. Is there a file where such a password would be set, which I can hack? Is there a script I can run to reset this password? I was on the verge of having a useful hylafax installation until my hard drive recently crapped out on me. Last week I rebuilt the system on a temporary drive, while I wait for my real drive to be replaced. I'm running into two sets of issues I'd appreciate some help with. All responses are appreciated. Now, I'm getting errors reading: Login failed: 530 Login incorrect everytime I try to run sendfax (from a script which reads in relevant part: sendfax -f "hesco@xxxxxxxxxx" -R -x "Georgia Green Party" -d "HughEsco@14048060584" GovBarnes-on-PR.pdf ). Also, running faxsetup yields several errors related to missing "font metric information". I'm running Debian Woody testing. What packages do I need to install so that my text files get appropriately converted for faxing? Your help is appreciated, -- Hugh Esco The faxsetup log reads: Setup program for HylaFAX (tm) 4.1.1.
