Subject: RE: [hylafax-users] Mandrake 9.2 Hylafax not quite working?I haven't had that error before. You might want to read the wedged man page and go from there. Is the modem definitely on ttyS1 and not ttyS0?Geoff-----Original Message-----

Subject: RE: [hylafax-users] Mandrake 9.2 Hylafax not quite working? Thanks Geoff - that got me past another hurdle. Unfortunately there seem to be further problems after the document conversion stage. Having real trouble getting Hylafax to play with my modem, eventhough the modem works fine when probing it with minicom. The syslog file is reporting messages like:/dev/ttyS1: Can not initialize modem.MODEM TIMEOUT: reading line from modemUnable to setup modem on /dev/ttyS1; giving up after 2 attemptsMODEM /dev/ttyS1 appears to be wedgedMODEM WEDGED: bin/wedged "ttyS1" "/dev/ttyS1"I have tried faxaddmodem several times; it seems to detect my Banksia modem best as Class 1 (class 2 is supported but it think it's a Rockwell).Possibly I'm not getting the faxmodem configuration string right. The at+ftm=? command returns:3,24,48,72,73,74,96,97,98,121,122,145,146So I'm calling faxmodem like this:faxmodem -c '(0,1),(0-5),(0-2),(0-2),(0,1),0,0,(0-7)' ttyS1I've also tried playing with the mgetty init string with no joy yet.-----Original Message-----

Subject: RE: [hylafax-users] Mandrake 9.2 Hylafax not quite working? The problem with the rpm is the permissions in the /var/spool/fax/bin directory. All the conversion (formatter) files are in that directory, and they need to be executable. On my system, I set the permissions to 777 for that directory and it works, but only I have permission to log on to the machine. (however I still don't like setting 777 even though nobody else can log onto it)I don't know what the recommended permissions are or who is supposed to own the files in that directory, but I am interested in finding out if somebody can help us out.Anyway, that should get you up and running.Geoff-----Original Message-----

Subject: [hylafax-users] Mandrake 9.2 Hylafax not quite working?Hello,I have spent a great deal of time getting Hylafax to work for me to no avail. Maybe someone can offer some advice as I'm running out of ideas. Here's the scenario:Hylafax installed fine, runs ok (i.e. the queue management part etc.).Modem is set up on ttyS1. Minicom talks with it fine.Hylafax is using class 1 with it.I only require outbound service, so I don't setup faxgetty at all. (I have tried just in case but that raised another set of problems; i.e. modem wedged, no FIFO device etc).Using "faxmodem" script seems fine. Although the faxstat will perpetually report "initializing server".The senfax job fails. Checking the syslog indicates that the problem is during the postscript conversion, i.e. "no_formatter".This happens whether I send native PS or Ascii direct from sendfax.Any input much appreciated...Disclaimer
