This tells us that the leading bad line before as well as the previous lack of recognition of the RTC was probably triggered by the Class 2.0 firmware.

I've seen this before. I haven't made a conclusive analysis, but I suspect that it's a problem with the USR in Class 1. So that's wonderful! You've got a buggy Class 2.0 and a buggy Class 1 with your USR.
