passive cards: - only one card per box is supported by the linux drivers - have only one ISDN-connector (1x S0 or 2x B-channels) - don't support some PBX-protocols - let the CPU do all the communication
active cards: - up to four per box are possible (mixing B1/C2/C4 is possible) - have 1 (B1) to 4 (C4) ISDN-connectors (one connector = 2 B-channels) - support point-to-point and point-to-multipoint protocols - have own CPU/memory to increase the CPU-idle time ;-)
