for the linux server, you have to add a user that is allowed to connect 
to your mysql server.  see adding users in the mysql documentation: 
http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Adding_users.php
you'll have to specify to let all hosts connect under that username or a 
range of IPs (using a wildcard)
