[hylafax-users] HylaFax/Suse8.1/Cannot reach Server at host 'localhost', Port 4556
Hello,
I have the task to install HylaFAX on a Linux server. Unfortuneately my
knowledge and experience with Linux or any other Unix are _extremely_ limited
(Not to say I am a complete beginner). So please forgive me asking seemingly
unnecessary questions. Thank you in advance for taking the time to reading my
message.
I am running a Suse 8.1 Linux and installed hylafax via rpm
(hylafax-4.1.2-1_1mlx.i386.rpm). I also installed Ghostscript and the other packages needed
ok. Hylafax at first reported, that it could not find the fonts at
/share/fonts, but this problem could be solved by creating the directory /share/fonts
and copying the files from /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts to it. (It works, but I
am sure this is not the recommended way to go about it. How can I fix this
problem without wasting diskspace?)
I ran faxsetup and faxaddmodem, which seemed to work ok. The modem (an
external SupraExpress 56k) was recognized as a Class1 modem.
When I try to send a fax with the sendfax command (e.g. 'sendfax -n -d -D
223373 testfile')
I get the following error message: Cannot reach Server at host 'localhost',
Port 4556.
I realize that some part of HylaFax is not running (properly), but I am
really not sure how to fix it :-). What entries do I have to make in what files
to permanently rid myself of the problem? Or Shall I try re-installing HylaFax
from another package?
One more question: Once the HylaFax-Server is running, what possibilities
exist to submit faxes to it from Windows Clients? Is it possible to easily send
a Word document as a fax from a Windows Station?
Thanks for your help and have a nice day...
Sincerely,
Rainer Arnst
