[hylafax-users] hylafax tiff files

Can someone tell me why incoming faxes that hylafax stores as tiff files are 
so much smaller than the same page scanned in as a tiff file with a scanner 
and the scanimage command.  Does hylafax use some sort of compression?  Is 
there a way I can apply that sort of compression to my scanned images?
