It's most important to make sure that you use a UFS formated disk for the source, otherwise it just doesn't work.

For GhostScript & libTiff, I use fink http://fink.sourceforge.net/ to get them.

For the configure line, I use the following:

./configure --with-GETTTY="BSD" --with-CXXFILE="-x c++" --with-TIFFINC="/sw/include" --with-LIBTIFF="-L/sw/lib -ltiff" --with-TIFFBIN="/sw/bin" --with-PATH_GSRIP="/sw/bin/gs" --with-PATH_AFM="/sw/share/ghostscript/fonts"
