Re: [hylafax-users] modem is wedged?

I am using a pool of USRobotics USB modems and they work fine UNTIL
there is a power failure and the server is shut down. On power restore,
the server restarts and then the modems must be power cycled AFTER the
server is running. If I power cycle the modems before the server has
completed its entire startup the modems still will not work. After
power cycling the modems I restart the faxgetty processes.

I never really complained about it because it just doesn't happen that
often and hasn't been a headache for me. I simply chalked it up the
being a USRobotics problem because it happens on the standard serial
versions too. I don't have any other modems to test with so I can't be
much more help.

One interesting thing to note, I did do some troubleshooting on this
problem: I found that if I restarted my hylafax server, and before
resetting the modems, I WAS able to talk to the modems with minicom,
however Faxgetty could not initialize the modems until I power cycled
them. Hmmm... Strange. Must be a USRobotics thing.

Just my 2 cense.

Someone in the list is using a pool of USB modems and
for his words working without problems. PCI or ISA
doesn't mather and as Lee said Class1 is immportant,
winmodems are not an option :-).
