Maybe a somewhat garbeled installation. Looks that the sceduler creates and checks the FIFO at /dev/FIFO and maybe faxmodem sends status reports to /FIFO. Have a look at /var/spool/fax # ls -al total 22 drwxr-xr-x 17 fax uucp 443 Feb 26 08:27 . drwxr-xr-x 19 root root 447 Aug 24 2001 .. prw------- 1 fax uucp 0 Jun 6 09:10 FIFO prw------- 1 fax wheel 0 Mar 11 12:00 FIFO.ttyS1 and /var/spool/fax/dev If you found FIFO's in both directories then you may have a broken installation.
