Not surprising since you're using 4.0pl2  Please upgrade to 4.1-release

Generally Class 1 is better than Class 2/2.0, however, I know of a firmware
problem with the Zyxel external modems which cause problems when receiving
in Class 1.  So, you may want to try and see first in Class 1.  If you get
problems, re-run faxaddmodem and chooose Class 2.0.
