[hylafax-users] Suggestion

I had an idea for a function that 'may' be usefull in the next version...

Maybe you could include a reporting function for creating a diagnostic
report (maybe /var/spool/hylafax/log/report.txt) on the setup of the hylafax
server configuration and log files -

e.g run command like
$> hylafax report

and it will combine config, config.ttySX, and a log file -

and/or another command that will automatically set the session tracing upto
0xFFF

e.g hylafax debug

Just an Idea --

I sent a couple faxes yesterday and my receiver said that the faxes came
through, but certain lines were crammed together here and there. I've
been having this problem often, the only time a fax goes through
properly is when the original document is under one page. One file was
from Wordperfect 8 and the other from Word 2000 on a windows machine. I
generated the postscript output file from an Apple Laserwriter driver
and loaded them onto my redhat machine. The fax modem I use is a Zoom
56K dual standard v.90 and K56flex external. Any suggestions? Please
help, I've tried changing the typerule file about margins and setting
the pagesize as well with no results to fix this problem.

There are problems. Working on it now. Use the mirror:

Dear Mr. Ro=E7adas,

thank you for your fast response to my question, but unfortunately
your tip did not work for me, but it is possible, that i still understand/
do something wrong with my configuration.

Can you, or someone else explain to me what happens when a user
connects to the faxserver who has a admin password. Is this user
automaticaly mapped to the uucp ( fax ) user ? Must a user that is
listed in the hosts.hfaxd also be a valid user in the linux system ?

i have tried the following:

first i just added a new entry at the top of my hosts.hfaxd, as you told me.
but this did not work. I could login with the administrator password but
always get the message:

550 /recvq/fax00008.tif: Operation not permited

when i try to delete or view the file.

Then i have created a linux account for the user in the hosts.hfaxd file
with group root, but another try showed no improvement.

The fax00008.tif file has following rights set:

0600, user: uucp, group: wheel ?

thank you for your kind help

with best regards

Andreas Oster

>>> procadas@creditus.pt 13.09.01 15.19 >>>
I assume that you have created a user with admin privileges (ex:adminuser).
Take the entry in hosts.hfaxd for this admin user and place it at the TOP.
The entry could be like this
^adminuser@<yourhost.*:::password

I forgot to mention. To delete the outgoing fax you must login as
adminuser.

First, please check the archives before posting to the list, this has been
covered. We'll just assume you didn't do that because the website has been
down.
Second, if you are posting an issue, please include more information about
your setup, ie server OS, version of HylaFAX, config.dev, etc.
Lastly, your problem is likely the flow control, that's what it was for me.
Do a man config, look for ModemFlowControl, or check the website when it is
backup.
