Remove the power supply or switch the modem off and on again.
You will see faxgetty re-initialising the modem (if you wiring is correct)
At least one of the RS232 signals is monitored to see whether the modem is
on. (DSR??) 


If your modem is off for some period of time there will email notifications
be sent to inform about a wedged modem.
