The HylaFAX root-path did change as of version 4.1. It is now '/var/spool/hylafax'. May be you have been looking in the wrong directory? If 'hosts.hfaxd' does not exist in your 'etc' directory relatively to you HylaFAX root directory then you have to create one and add the IP-adresses of the machines you are using in there. (Or some other entries --> See 'man hosts.hfaxd'.)
