That's Lee's polite way of saying "what the hell did you do it like
that for?"  :-)

That approach is, alas, not going to solve the problem, since those
templates are *modified* when they're written into the devid files.

Remove config.ttywhatever, and re-run faxaddmodem, manually choosing the
appropriate modem type.
