Lee, here is what happens for me:

linux1:/tmp # rpm -Uvh hylafax-4.1beta3-1suse7.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        libstdc++-libc6.1-2.so.3 is needed by hylafax-4.1beta3-1suse7


linux1:/tmp # rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force hylafax-4.1beta3-1suse7.i386.rpm
hylafax                     ##################################################
linux1:/tmp # /sbin/init.d/hylafax start
Starting HylaFAX queue manager: faxq: error in loading shared libraries: libstdc
++-libc6.1-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Starting HylaFAX server: hfaxd: error in loading shared libraries: libstdc++-lib
c6.1-2.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

i tried this:

linux1:/tmp # rpm -U libstdc++-2.95.1_2.10.0-3.i386.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        glibc >= 2.1.2 is needed by libstdc++-2.95.1_2.10.0-3

and

linux1:/tmp # rpm -U libc-2.1.2-31.i386.rpm
package libc-2.1.3-190 (which is newer than libc-2.1.2-31) is already installed
file /usr/share/man/man1/db_archive.1.gz from install of libc-2.1.2-31 conflicts
 with file from package shlibs-2.1.3-141
file /usr/share/man/man1/db_checkpoint.1.gz from install of libc-2.1.2-31 confli
cts with file from package shlibs-2.1.3-141
file /usr/share/man/man1/db_deadlock.1.gz from install of libc-2.1.2-31 conflict
s with file from package shlibs-2.1.3-141
....

AFAIK suse names glibc 'libc'. so version 2.1.3 seems to be installed but rpm does
not see it. Is my diagnosis correct?
